Moonbear got married!

Stephanie and Scotty

Stephanie met a boy and 5 months later (aka Saturday) they got hitched! My friend Tammy and I headed down to the Twin Falls temple to see it! Well, I didn't see it but... you know what I mean :) It was a beautiful day and they were so stinkin' cute!

Stephanie has been one of my favorite roommates ever! She is so fun and chill and I will miss seeing her all the time! But, I am going to visit them at their new, cute house and it will be much fun!

Also, it was windy.

Since the reception wasn't until 7, Tammy and I went to the Magic Valley Mall in Twin Falls and surprisingly, there were quite a few stores! I got a dress, a skirt, shorts, flip flops and Steph and Scotty's wedding present, haha! It was a great day and I am wicked excited for summer now that I have fun new clothes!!

From Old Navy we caught a glimpse of this great view! It was like a mini- Grand Canyon or something (even though I don't really know what the Grand Canyon looks like).

Such a good day :)

I am a pioneer.

Reason #1
I make this 0.8 mile trek from Porter's to my apartment at least twice a week. There and back makes it a 30 minute trip! Also, in Rexburg, when the wind slows you down immensely (and it's cold) it's like crossing the plains, I swear! ;)

Reason #2
I make homemade rolls. Enough said.

Sometimes I do things I actually need to...

220 squares.

Yeah, that's right, 220 10x10 squares for one rag quilt.  Thanks to a roller cutter it didn't take too long to cut but still! And that's not even including my 80+ squares of batting! This quilt is definitely going to stay in the family for at least 100 years if I have anything to say about it!

This quilt is for class and I have always wanted to do a rag quilt so here I am.  The only thing is that I totally overestimated my abilities! I wanted it to be big enough for an adult to snuggle under so I thought,  hey, it won't be too bad, but it is truly a lot of work! Too late now to back out!

I got this, right?

I Blog? Who knew! And cookies :)

So today, Kira came over to help me with my science experiment. Yes, baking is a science (and an art) and I needed help because I didn't want to look like a fool trying to create beautifully, bakery-approved cookies by myself because I knew they would not turn out beautiful and certainly would never be considered to go into a bakery window.  Also, I had homework to do. She obliged.

Recently, I have been seeing these royal icing recipes on so many other blogs that call for meringue powder (which I have never heard of) and these cookies were gorgeous! I recalled the days of girl scouts when my mom made countless batches of royal icing using egg whites for our graham cracker gingerbread houses, so this mysterious powder seemed legit.  So I went to Wal-Mart, picked some up and attempted to make this recipe.  I learned a few things.  At first, our frosting was runny like most royal icing but I thought... the longer you whip meringue, the stiffer it gets... so I should whip it longer, right? Low and behold- it worked! All those years of watching cooking shows finally paid off in one simple moment. See how these first frostings are drippy and not appealing? Well, here is the stiff peaked.. and I was excited!

So, we got to decorating and I realized something. I, Elisabeth Bowring, will never be a cookie decorator. Nor, will I ever host one of those undeniably, enviable, perfectly perfect cookie blogs.  And I am okay with it. Today was the start and triumphant finish of my cookie decorating career. May it rest in peace. However, maybe we failed so miserably because I accidentally put an extra 1/2 cup of sugar or probably a total of an extra cup of flour into the recipe? Or maybe it was because of the fact that we don't have decorating piping bags or fancy tips?  Either way, I'm just not artistic. And I don't have the motivation to do that many dishes in the end that it requires. But here is the finished product!

We made daisies for Spring, of course! And I wasn't too disappointed and thought it was a home run for our first try!

Well, we got to talking and Kira has a super cute blog and I decided right then and there that I wanted to blog! So here I am, when I still have homework and I'm just really tired, typing away and playing around with backgrounds and fonts... Hence, my blog name.  I find that every time I have something legitimate and pressing to do, I am off wandering, doing something else... completely unrelated.  It's because I'd rather be doing something I want to do, rather than something I have to do.  Character flaw. I've accepted it... embraced it even! And gosh darnit... I'm gonna be a blogger, and I will like it!

We shall see how long this lasts.
